Tata Jagriti Yatra is an annual train journey that takes hundreds of India’s highly motivated youth (with some participation of international students) between the ages of 20-25 and experienced professionals with age above 25, on an eighteen day national odyssey, introducing them to unsung heroes of India. The aim is to awaken the spirit of entrepreneurship - both social and economic – within India’s youth by exposing them to individuals and institutions that are developing unique solutions to India’s challenges. This is an initiative by Jagriti Sewa Sansthan. Through this national event they have begun to inspire the youth of India to lead and develop institutions both nationally and within their communities.
Vision
The vision of Tata Jagriti Yatra is to inspire young Indians living in the middle of the Indian demographic diamond (Rs 40-Rs 120 per day) to lead development by taking to enterprise. By doing so, they can turn from being job seekers to job creators. Apart from this economic argument, they also discover a purpose that is appropriate for their talents. Only if we create a movement around enterprise led development will India’s youth employment and development issues will be resolved.
Selection Procedure:
The goal of the program is to select youngsters that are potential social and business entrepreneurs and facilitators who can help them maximize the learning on the journey. While aiming for the best candidates, the focus remains the economic middle of India. In addition they also aim for equal representation of male –female candidates and an even regional spread within India. Applications are accepted from NRI candidates also whose global exposure adds to the richness of debate on the journey.

Yatri
All the candidates selected by the selection board of Yatra are “Yatris”. The success of the Yatra depends largely on the quality of the Yatris.
There will be two kinds of Yatris – Participants and Facilitators.
Participant
They are young candidates in the age group of 20-25 who want to be the change they want to see around them.
Facilitator
The Facilitators are experienced professionals who are keen to join the movement for enterprise led development. They may be entrepreneurs, teachers or mid-career employees seeking to switch to enterprise.
Eligibility
Yatris: Bright youngsters between the ages of 20 to 25, who have demonstrated entrepreneurial abilities and can communicate well in either Hindi or English.
Facilitators: Professionals above 25 years of age who have demonstrated expertise in a thematic area of the Yatra, ability to work with youth, good communications and language skills.
